The Histomap Project
From an early age, I have been fascinated by spirituality. So, I created a Histomap of World Religions to visually chart thousands of religions I have learned about to date. The project has inspired me to design several more maps documenting data for various fields of study (After selecting the links, you can zoom in and out of the Figma space to experience the maps):
Histomap of the Study & Theories of Consciousness >
Two books (of many) have sparked my interest in Consciousness — Godel, Escher, Bach: An Eternal Golden Braid by Douglas Hofstadter, and The Conscious Mind by David Chalmers. I organized the map into four 'theory quadrants' — ideal, physical, animate and inanimate — to capture the spectrum of ideas from ancient to present.
When I read the book, The Evolution of God by Robert Wright in 2009, I learned about the term monolatry. The concept intrigued me and challenged me to learn more about this belief system — worshipping of one god without denial of the existence of other gods.
Histomap of the Cognitive Science of Religion >
I have been studying about the Cognitive Science of Religion for the past decade. The new synthesis of paleoarchaeology, neurotheology, sociology, anthropology, primatology, and evolutionary biology helps tell the story of our human history and the emergence of religion.
